Homemade perfection

You know how when you are dating someone your are always kinda analyzing things about them to see if they fit what you are looking for in a spouse?  Some are essential traits you are looking for, some are just good, some are bad but maybe not a deal breaker, and some are a total deal breaker.  So when I was dating Will I have to admit I was pretty sure he was the one right away and it wasn't because he was into stuff I was into, shared the same values as me, loved me for me, or because he wrote me the sweetest hand written notes all the times.  It was when I found out we had both grown up in families that made homemade ice cream in White Mountain Ice Cream freezers.  Then I just knew he was the one!  I being a girl had the family handed down recipe for the perfect vanilla ice cream, and Will being the boy had learned the perfect ratio of ice to rock salt needed, and the magical sounds to listen for to know when its ready.  We both understood that it was the man of the houses job to pull out the dasher from the freezer and eat it clean and tell tales of when they once had to hand crank the ice cream.  It was like we were made to get married and make ice cream together for the rest of our lives!!  Over the years we have made many a freezer full of ice cream and shared it with the masses of poor unfortunate souls who have only ever gone to the grocery store or Dairy Queen to get their ice cream fix.  Think I am exaggerating a bit.....well then I guess you haven't had any of our homemade ice cream.

Today is your lucky day because I have decided that I am going to share my homemade ice cream making knowledge with you.  First and foremost you have to start with the right equipment and while you can go out and buy many brands of ice cream makers if you want one that will last for years to come then accept no substitutes and get yourself a White Mountain ice cream freezer. You also need  several bags of ice and some rock salt.

The first thing you have to do when you want to make homemade ice cream is plan ahead because need to soak your bucket in water several hours before you want to start freezing it. You do this so that the wood in the bucket soaks up the water and will not be leaking while you are freezing the ice cream.  So just put the hose in it fill it with water and let it sit.  You may need to check on it periodically and refill it if some of the initial water leaked out.

Another thing you might want to think about is Texas Sheet Cake.  Texas Sheet cake in my opinion pretty much the only  way you can make homemade ice cream better.  They just go together perfectly. (Kinda like Will and I)

TOP SECRET FAMILY RECIPE:

4 Eggs
2 1/2 C Sugar
4 C Milk
1 Pint Whipping Cream
2 Pints half and half
2 T Vanilla
1/2 t salt

Beat Eggs till light and fluffy

Gradually add sugar, beating till thick

Add remaining ingredients, mix.

Freeze in 1 Gallon freezer

Enjoy!
