May 2017

So I thought since May is my favorite month (for many reasons) and I have a new phone that I can take pictures with once again, and just to change things up a bit I might do a picture a day to recap the Month of May. So here we go:

May 1st: May Got off to a BANG, Literally, with Will and I having a fun morning at the Range together.

May 2nd: Papa Rex had to have emergency eye surgery for 3 tears in his retina!  Once it was over he had to stay laying down on his left side for a full week.  Grant and I went to visit while Rex was at school.  Grant gave Papa his pillow for the day to help him feel better.

MAY 3RD: My Sweet little Grant-man got his 5 year old check up and a shot in both legs (On the 2nd).  The next day he ended up coming home from preschool with a fever and a limping leg.  He slept most of the afternoon and was in good spirits by the evening. He was so sweet sleeping on the couch all afternoon...

MAY 4TH: Yay birthday month.....boo I'm 35.  It's ok I guess but I will probably stop counting after this one.  I used some of my bday money for an Instant Pot.  Which is the new popular pressure cooker that everyone is so crazy about.  I may do a few blog posts dedicated to my trials and errors learning to use it.  I'm excited!!

MAY 5TH: The end of the year field trip for 1st Grade was the Zoo.  This was my crew for the day. (they were nice enough to let me bring Grant along)  We had fun but wow 3, 7 year old boys together (and a 5 year old tagging along) all day have A LOT of energy.

This picture is what it looked like at the main entrance at the end of the day!  I think every school in the area came and all met at the same time and place! AHH.  Luckily we found our group and got out of there with no problems. (yes yes I know this is 2 pictures for 1 day)

MAY 6TH: The Garden is in, such as it is.  I have not had much luck with peppers or big tomato plants or bell peppers so this year I am just doing cherry tomatoes, a cabbage (grant picked this out at the garden center, and we planted some pumpkin seeds, I'm skeptical about them.)

MAY 7TH: Rex was so proud of the house he and some others built at Sunday school he asked me to take a picture...

MAY 8TH: Sally and I's birthday!  Will was out of town at a week long training in Chicago and he surprised me with beautiful Flowers!....hmmm I wonder if I could arrange for him to be gone next year too?

MAY 9TH: So we area fresh out of ground beef.  I don't think I have bought ground beef once in the almost 13 years we have been married, we always get it from the Rowlands.  but we are out and just have to make it a few weeks till we go visit again.  But we do have quite a bit of steak....so I am grinding perfectly good steak into hamburger.  Some might think this is wrong but I call it resourceful....also it's really good!

MAY 10TH: Enjoying some of my birthday presents from my Sisters.  A fun new coffee cup and latte art stencils.

Its supposed to be a coffee cup on top, Im still learning...

MAY 11TH: Minecraft came out for the Nintendo Switch....and Rex had bday money....it was purchased.

MAY 12TH: It was hard to pick just one pic for today.  Daddy got home!, the weather was gorgeous, It was kids in the kitchen day at preschool and Field day at Grade school, Grant and I found the cutest baby turtle in the pond and named him Kubo, the new Skyzone trampoline park opens tomorrow but City Employees got in free tonight.  The boys loved it! and I was amazed at all they were able to do.  besides just the trampoline jumping area there was a warped wall, climbing wall, and warrior course all of which I thought they wouldn't be able to do, they did all of them!

MAY 13TH: Will and I did some serious yard work out front.  The Ivy is very pretty but such a Weed!

MAY 14TH:  Happy Mother's Day!  I love being a Momma to these 2 boys!

MAY 15th: We've got a bird nest in one of my ferns on the porch.  First I found a nest, then a few days later 2 eggs, then a few more days later 5! eggs.  I'm trying to be very careful when I water it.  We are excited to see some babies one of these days soon.

May 16th: Today was the last MoV of the year.  It was been a good year.  But a lot of the leadership and organizational structure is changing for next year.  Not sure if it will be good or bad yet, just different.  And I'm not totally sure if I will be back next year.  I've loved my time at MOPs/MoV but with Grant going to kindergarten I'm just not totally sure what next fall will look like.  I'm kinda interested in finding something part time but also not in a rush.  Also I have done it for the last 6 years and might be ready for something different like Community Bible study or something else even?  Time will tell.  This was my table for the year, we had a table decorating contest our color pallet was "festive green"

MAY 17TH:  My little Graduate!  Today we had Grant's preschool graduation!  He was so excited all day and sang "graduation day is here, it has been an awesome year....." to the tune of

MAY 18TH:  Rex won Mileage Club at School!  Let me explain.  Towards the beginning of the school year Rex came home one day and told us about this new thing they were doing during the lunch recess called Mileage Club.  You run laps around the playground and the lunch aid keeps track of your laps and you can earn "feet" for every mile you run, and the person who has the most miles at the end of the school year will win a Toys R Us gift card!"  Rex said he was going to run every single day because he really wanted to win that gift card.  Well.....he did!  He ran every single day for the whole recess.  He would tell us who was in the lead, and how many miles he had, and who ran with him all the time.  As the year went on the kids dwindled until I think it was mostly just him running but he kept it up.  He logged 89 miles for the year, (which is pretty good if you think about all the days it rains, or was cold over winter and they didn't even go outside) He won a t-shirt (that is giant and fits me), a water bottle, a "mileage club" necklace, a certificate......and a Toys R Us gift card!  Obviously as runners Will and I are proud of him for all his running but much more so than that we are proud of him for sticking with it all year, and making a goal and working hard for it all year and then accomplishing it all on his own!

MAY 19TH: Grant's last day of preschool picture! (yes he had 1 more day after his graduation (to party of course!)

MAY 20th: We found a cool Luna moth by our garage door.  It layed a bunch of eggs.

MAY 21st: I was sick all weekend (worst sinus infection of my life!), and of course it was Will's long weekend to work.  We got by ok but relied heavily on the TV and Nintendo Switch for entertainment.  The boys had a lot of fun trying out a new game (mario cart 8 deluxe) we rented from the video store.

May 22nd: Rex's Last day of School Picture:

MAY 23RD: This picture really does not fit the day but alas it is the only one I actually took.  I tried out a new orange chicken recipe in the instant pot.  I'm still not really tasting things a whole lot (sniff sniff) so I'm not the best judge but it was just OK.  What I really wish I had a picture of was our fun family morning outing.  Being the 1st days of summer break, and we were all home I thought we might do something fun to kick off summer.  What do you think of when you think of Summer?  Water?  Swimming ?  But it was only about about 70 degrees and no pools are open yet.  So we tried out the new McKeendree Metro Rec Plex in O'fallon and went swimming in their indoor rec pool, then lunch at sonic.  Despite all of us having blue lips and chattering teeth by the time it was over we had a fun time.

MAY 24th: This sweet little girl has been a topic of concern lately.  Some days we just dont know how long she has left, and then other days she "perks" up and we think she is doing all right for a 12 1/2 year old dog.  She doesn't like the heat so we will see how the summer goes.  We love you Millie Dog.

May 25th: Mom came and picked the boys up for an overnight sleep over.....and I'm still feeling like crap.   Time for some rest and relaxation for me.

May 26th: It was a busy day!  The boys had a sleep over at Grandma's the night before. (so I could try to rest and fight my still awful cold), They came home full of stories and fun.  Then we had a playdate with my friend Abbie and her daughter Pennie (who is Grants age)  They live in the country (not really farmers but kinda homesteaders) and Grant got to help collect eggs.

May 27th: Crayfish boil!  A guy Will works with has one every year and invites everyone from the PD.  We went last year and it was SO fun and I found out I like Cajun!  This year we made up a freezer of our signature homemade ice cream and Texas Sheet Cake.  Now its starting to  feel like summer!

May 28th: Will and I got to go out on a date for our Anniversary (technically on the 29th) Missouri Botanical Garden, then dinner and a movie.  [thankyou for Babysitting Grandma Cindy!!]

May 29th: Happy Memorial Day. Happy 13th Anniversary!
Time to get the pool out and have a water gun fight with the boys!
(I'm finally starting to feel better!)

May 30th: I technically took this picture yesterday, but I didn't have a pic to use today and I really like this one.  A thunderstorm rolled in right about dinner time and it really poured.  then the sun came out and it poured some more. (Also now Will is loosing his voice ;/  and Grant has hives ;/ )

May 31st: We've mowed and moped and worked out and done laundry and packed and we are ready to go! Also this kid cracks me up.  He dresses himself every morning before he comes down stairs and it's always interesting...to say the least

Whew Good bye May!  And we are off and on our way to Kansas, and then Family Camp, look out June!

I love this! I like the photo a day(ish) idea. May have to steal it. I hadn't realized the mileage club was a year long thing. Way to stick with it, Rex! Also, love the camo and plaid. Trendsetter. ;)
