Wow We've had an amazing kick off to summer! Here are some highlights of our Kansas Trip
THURSDAY: We arrived!
There was a new baby that Grandpa was about to take out to pasture. The boys were kind enough to help Grandpa out with the job.
Grandma helped Grant get reacquainted with Blaze
FRIDAY:
2 little boys and a farm dog running to the creek. Timeless.
We had fun throwing rocks, collecting rocks and other treasures, and watching sticks float under the bridge.
The boys had fun with the tether ball out front, Grant's head is just out of this shot but he made a quick dodge from the ball. (little brother life skills)
I texted this to Will and said..."can we get a jack russell?" Belle is the sweetest farm dog there ever was.
The Fairchild's arrived! AND we got to go to the Strong City Rodeo!
Yeehaw!
The rodeo didn't start till 8 which is usually our bedtime! But the boys did great and really enjoyed taking it all in.
SATURDAY:
Will and I got up a 5am to watch the take off of the the Dirty Kanza 200. What is the DK200 you ask? It is a 200 mile, all gravel, endurance, bike race through the flint hills. It starts and end on Emporia Main street. It also has distances of 100, 50, and 25. It sells out within minutes every year and includes over 2,500 bikers. This event has been growing for a number of year but has really taken off and gotten big since we moved away. Being a fan of endurance sports I wanted to take in the sights and sounds of it some while we were there. So like I said Will and I got up for the take off of the bikers, then came back in the afternoon with everyone and saw some of the early finishers and the finishline games and events for fans. Then that evening after our date (which was downtown) we saw more riders coming in. The race starts at 6am, early finisher will finish just under 12 hours, many riders will go past sundown and come in late into the night. the official cut off is 3am I think. Some years there is flooding issues and mud, some years wind, some blazing heat. This year the conditions were very favorable and they actually had the highest finishing rate ever. some years it has been as low as 30% it averages just over 50% I think. It's just an amazing feat, that is very awe inspiring to witness. Part of me wants to participate in some way some day, and part of me is ok to just stand at the sidelines and be awed. I only ended up getting one video of the start. Here are some pics I borrowed from the event website that give you an idea of the scope of it all.
Rodeo Parade on Saturday.
Sibling date night on Saturday night at our favorite restuarant!
SUNDAY:
Cheese!
Baby Chloe is getting so big since the last time we saw her. She was so close to crawling we were hoping she would do it during the visit. She didn't quite do it, but she did get her 1st tooth!
Just being silly with my phone, but aren't they cute puppy dogs!?
Here's what happens when you try to take pictures of little boys (also I may have interupped a game of cops farm cops and robber to try to take this)
Grant practicing his batman skills
The dandelions are bigger and...apparently stronger in Kansas....
Will took this shot of his dad, I really love it.
