2016 Home Improvements

As we begin the new year we usually like to tackle a few home improvement projects.  Last year we painted the bathroom and got a new washer and dryer (inside!).  I have love, love, loved that new area all year long. Some times I'm just in there switching loads or hanging up clothes to air dry and I just smile because I love that space in the house now.  So anyway this year we have started up our home improvement projects again

One small project was to to kinda refresh the buffet area.  We actually had these matching lamp bases in the garage that the old owners left.  I found some lamp shades and walah.  Some times I can hardly wait for the sun to go down because I really love this area all lit up at night, especially when the diffuser is running to changing colors.

This is not the greatest pic but its a tight angle to take a pic of.  Anyway we hung up a bunch of family pictures in the hallway and we also hung up a bunch of old plaques and certificates in the basement.  (don't you love the cool R Annie and her boys hand made me for Christmas).  I've wanted to get these family pics up forever!  Now I can just update them as I get new pic from people.
Next is a biggie.  We used some of our tax return (yes that is right we have already done our taxes, submitted them, and gotten our return)  A NEW DISHWASHER!  Our dishwasher has been on its last leg for a while now.  Its was loud, covered in lime deposits, and basically just sanitized our dishes, I had to completely scrub every little bit of food off of them before hand.  After comparing and shopping and a bit of research we went with a Bosch.  I Love it so far!

new inside, see the cool 3rd rack?

Another ongoing project is new curtains for the bay window area.  I got inspired from a pinterest picture to get long curtains.  Partly we want to update the area to just be more our style but another reason is for more privacy.  This area is wide open at night, and while we dont have any close backyard neighbors per se, well in the words of my husband "you never now when someone might be hiding in the woods watching you"  So it will be nice to pull this area closed a night.  But being that the curtains are going above a window seat and not all the way to the floor, there are no curtains the right length.  So I am (gulp) going to hem them.  We also need to find a bay window curtain rod.  So its a work in progress.  Also if when this get all done we like the look were probably going to need to update the window covers in the living room because they were covered in this same fabric.

new rods are up (now for the hemming part...)
Here is another one Im excited about.  Ever since I have started Wildtree I have need a place to store all my stuff.  I kept thinking I would get all organized in the basement desk area and have a nice office area but the the reality is I jump in and out of Wildtree all day long when I get a minute here and there and Im always at the computer upstairs so I need to have it upstairs near me.  So here is my new work center.

area before

My new command center.  with places to store my files, calendar, a chalk board and its all metal so its all magnetic to clip stuff up on.

I've still got a few other home improvement projects planned but might have to take a break for now.
