FUN 4TH

We had a really fun 4th of July weekend this year.  We realized just about the week before that Hey Will was going to be off for the whole 4th weekend!  Daddy home for a holiday what a rare treat! (now if we could only have him awake all day. oh well we'll take what we can get. 3 afternoons with Daddy on a holiday weekend!)

Friday was a pretty normal day I guess, we spent the morning doing some errands and getting a few supplies for the 4th and we did  go out to eat and try out a new mexican place and have a family movie night.  Peter Pan: Return to Neverland won the vote.  Rex says its better than the first one.....im not so sure about that but to each his own.  Then once we got the boys in bed Will and I watched the original Jurassic Park.  (im really wanting to see the new one so Im brushing up on all the old ones).

Saturday (the 4th!) was a pretty jammed pack day.  The boys and I started out the day with a morning outing to Barnes and Noble for a dinosaur themed story time.  We had never been to one of these so I wasn't sure what to expect but it was very well done and kept us busy for over an hour. At then end I surprised them and told them they could both pick a book out to buy.  Grant picked one about construction right away and Rex spent about the next 20 minutes trying to decided what he wanted.  He ended up picking a book about how to play the game Minecraft and has been pretty much obsessed with it ever since.

the boys have both been into dinosaurs lately.

That afternoon at home the neighbor boys came over (Lem and Ezra) and ended up playing the whole afternoon.  Which was good because  I was busy in the kitchen preparing our cookout, homemade ice cream, and texas sheet cake feast.

the icecream and cake were DEE-licious

Its nice that at this age a few smoke bombs and poppers are pretty fun and exciting entertainment. After dinner we had planned to catch lightning bugs (a treat because usually I have the boys in bed before they are coming out) and do a few sparklers and go to bed.  But the boys were both having a lot of fun and wanted to go see the big fireworks they kept hearing boom in the distance.  So at 9pm we loaded up to see what we could fine.  We found a quite impressive neighborhood firework display that we watched in a church parking lot and then headed towards the town of Mascoutah in hopes of catching their big firework display.  Grant fell asleep on the way and we did fine them but were pretty far away from us so we watched for a while but they weren't as impressive being so far away.  Next year we may have to plan to go to a big show somewhere seeing how interested the boys were in fireworks this year.

Rex got a lesson in Minecraft from Lem

The boys all shot their cap guns for a while. (seemed an appropriate thing to do on the 4th)

I wanted to try a new trick with my camera where to adjust the shutter so you can see all the movement from the sparklers.  It took me a few tries to adjust stuff but I got it figured out and got a few fun pics.

The boys having a battle
We continued our fun on Sunday with church in the morning and then watching the Womens World Cup final that evening.  We had another family over  the boys ran all over with the kids and we watched to most amazing game of womens soccer ever!  Then Will and I watched Jurassic Park 2: Lost World.  (2 down 1 to go!)

Forth of July 2015 was a Fun family weekend.  I feel like at 3 and 5 we are starting to build some memories for the boys on holidays and start some of our own family traditions.
