A couple of weeks ago my dad asked if Will and I wanted to go to the Indy 500 with him. Will was off that weekend on vacation and mom would watch the boys so it was a no brainer. YES!

Me, Will, Dad, and family friend Scott Monkern at the race
Our day started early. 2 a.m. early to be exact. We arrived about 6:30 and were able to secure a good parking place about a mile away from the stadium. The race didn't start till noon so we had some time to kill. But there was lots to see and do all around the race complex |

| The sunrise driving into Indiana |
 |
| When we first got there we could walk around the track area a bit |
 |
| We found our seats |
Once we found our seats and set down our coolers and back pack we went to see what we could see. First we went into a fun area were there were lots of cars and things on display and giveaways and contests to enter. After a while I was wishing I had my bag because my hands were getting full. Once we dropped all that off we kinda stumbled into the celebrity red carpet area for the famous people who were attending the race. I dont really get all that excited about famous people but since we were there it was kinda fun to watch them come in with their entourage of publicists and the event staff and watch all the photographers take their pictures and watch them do interviews.

| Will just wanted to see if he fit....he did |
 |
| Patrick Dempsy from Grey's Anatomy....he's not dead!! (he was the honorary race starter) |
 |
| Jordan Sparks-I recognized her right away I watched her way back on American Idol. She sang the National Anthem at the start of the race. |
 |
| I dont remember this guys name but he is the quarterback of the Indianapolis Colts. We took this pic because Will thought it was funny how the reporter was on her tip toes trying to hold the mic up and be in the camera shot with him. |
 |
| Jeff Gordon. He was the pace car driver for the race. |
After that we (Will and I) decided to walk around the whole track area (its 2.5 miles). It was interesting to see all the different seating areas. there are grandstands like where we were, there is a tailgating area where people park and camp, there was a concert going on on the other side of the track that I would have never even known about if we hadn't gone over there, there was a museum, a golf course in the middle of it where people had blankets set up all over just hanging out, grassy areas were people just sat in chairs and blankets. Once we got done with that I was ready to sit and eat some snacks till race time.

I wasn't a race fan before going and I probably still wont watch it on tv but I really enjoyed the day and just experiencing it all once. Taking in all the sites, and sounds, and learn about how it all works and to be there with 500,000 other people was lots of fun. (not a typo....this is why we had to leave early for parking). I also enjoyed getting to spend the day with Will and Dad and I got a nice tan while sitting in the bleachers. The track is 2.5 miles long so you only see like one straight away where you are sitting we were sitting along pit row so we also got to see the cars coming in to get tires changed and fuels in mear seconds and them zip off again. The cars drive over 200 miles an hour so once they all go zipping by you, you start seeing them again in like 20 seconds. The beginning had lots of tradition and fanfare. Once they started racing there were like 4 wrecks in a row once they got going there weren't too many other wrecks and it got a little long in the middle, (I think we all admitted to dosing off for a bit) but the end was a exciting finish down to the last turn.
Once the race was over we took off on a brisk hike to the car. Once we got there we were able to pull right out and get on the interstate while Im sure many people were stuck in traffic for a long long time. We enjoyed a nice quiet, cool, dinner at Olive Garden and even made it home before bedtime. The boys had lots to tell me about their fun day with Grandma and I showed them all my pics and videos from the day......then I went to sleep!
