Lego Love: Operation Build the Death Star

As most of your know Rex's world kind revolves around 2 things.  Legos and Star Wars.  So when it comes to Star Wars Legos that is pretty much all there is.  I really think he would be happy to play with and build sets all day everyday if I would sit and do it with him.  I of course also enjoy Star Wars and Legos however I also have another child, a husband, and a house to take care of.  Rex's ultimate dream is to have the Lego Death Star set.  I would also like it but it costs $400.  Maybe some day but for now we are building our own. Rex studies the pictures and tells me a part of it to build and then I do my best with the random pieces we have and build it for him.  Remember I have No instructions just pics to study.  We have been working on different parts of it all month and I thought I might share some of our progress.  Rex helps me some but mostly he jsut plays and encourages me.  Some of the sets Im pretty happy with the way they turned out and a few are pretty sad but someday I think I might want to look back and see all of them so here is our work:

My first job was to build the trash compactor scene on the left and the tractor beam on the right.  Rex really wanted the wall to be able to collapse on the trash compactor but I told him im not that good so this is what we ended up with

Ok not the best trash compactor but the tractor beam turned out pretty close to the pics

The part that I did nail on the trash compactor was the garbage squid that lives in it.

Next was the super laser cannon and control room
Not my best work.....I just didn't have any pieces that would work

This is some robot crane things I dont remember it from the movies

Hey I got a robot to hang in the air that should count for something

The classis duel scene when Luke confronts Darth Vader

Our duel scene

Han saving Leia from the prison block

Not bad but Rex was sad I didn't have a trap door that dropped them into the garbage level.

Darth Vaders meeting room

My Mom thought Darth Vader was playing cards.....

Well thats all for now.....but theres still more to come.
