Is June seriously over already? I feel like it just started? I guess we have been busy this month. Our month kicked off with Will and I finishing up our anniversary weekend alone. Then before we knew it it was time for our big family Staycation (which has it's own entry) and then we pretty much just spent the rest of the month recovering from it all.

Will and Beth:
Will and I got to both run in the Route 66 10K in Edwarsville on the 14th. We both had PRs (set new personal records) for a 10K race.....and im not sure if either one of us has run again all month long. Will has been very busy watching World Cup Soccer. After all it is only every 4 years. In fact we were remembering Will watching soccer games 4 years ago and holding little itty bitty Rex on the couch to watch soccer with him. It will be over in a couple weeks and I am anxious to have the Daddy that we already dont see for more than a couple of hours a day back to spend time with us, rather than spending every waking moment watching soccer. Sometimes I have felt like our marriage has made it for 10 years but Im not sure it will make it through this World Cup! Ok rant over.

Splash Pad fun
The other day I all of a sudden kinda got this feeling like we are starting to turn into locals here. I often feel like we still dont have many friends here, when you stay at home you can easily feel isolated and alone. But the other day a friend invited us to go to the splash pad with her and her son. While we were there I ran into 3 people that I know. One a old high school friend (Heidi Woods (but she is married now) who I enjoyed visiting and catching up with, One an old friend from MOPS that doesn't go there anymore, and the other one was a boy and his mom from Rex's preschool class this year. Rex spent almost the whole time playing with the little boy. they had been good buddies during the year. (too bad they are moving away at the end of the summer). Later in the afternoon the neighbor boys were over playing and I was visiting with their mom, then that evening I went to Bible Study at church and it was 4 other Moms from my MOPS group that are all fun and I am enjoying getting to know more. And I sorta realized hey we are starting to put down roots here. We know people, we have friends! We are all in that crazy busy stage of life where you dont just go over and hang out with each other for hours but when we do see each other we enjoy catching up, swapping parenting horror stories, and encouraging each other that we will make it through. Our time together is short and usually interrupted but it is still there and much appreciated.

Growing Garden
We have had a few warm days here and there but over all we have had lots of nice 80 degree days and lots of rain showers. Which means my Garden in growing like crazy! When we got back from our Staycation the Raspberries were just turning red. Now I have been getting about a bowl full every other day. I have also already harvested 2 peppers, a jalapeno, cilantro, and basil. My sweet 100 tomato plant is huge with lots of little green balls.

I would caption this, "some days when you wake up you just dont feel like being a Sith Lord"
Rex is enjoying summer very much so far. He of course had a blast with all his cousins during our staycation. He is also very very busy working on Lego projects most days. (I will blog more about this later). One new thing Rex has discovered this month is taking showers. He tried it one night and now enjoys taking them many evenings and sometimes even in the morning just for fun! A couple funny phases I wrote down that he said this month were:
while fishing with Rex at the pond, "It sure is a beautiful evening out here isn't Momma"
and one day he told me "You look picture perfect!"

Grant:
|
Is it just me or is this kid super CUTE!

Grant is my commentator right now. He just kinda likes to give me the play by play of whatever is going on. Most often he tells me where Rex is and what he is doing. It especially makes me laugh when Rex is crying about something he will say something like "Rexie's crying! He not obey, he's sad." He has also got a new phrase that he likes to use when he is mad a Rex he tells him very sternly, "You stop it RIGHT AWAY!" Which pretty much never works and usually just makes Rex mad at him. He pretty much tells me exactly what he is thinking like the other night when it was bath time, which he likes, but he didn't want to stop playing with the toy he was into at the time and I had asked him several times to come join us for bath time. So finally I just went in and picked him up and hauled him into the bathroom. As I was walking through the hall he said, "I not want you to hold me, I not want to take a bath, You leave me ALONE" Of course we had to have a talk about talking to Mommy respectfully but I had to also try to not laugh I cant believe such powerful statements come out of such a tiny little person.

Grant has self graduated himself to "the Green swing" now. No more blue baby swing for this big guy!
