Camping at Hazlet State Park

So I've been starting to work on my August Blog post and I realized I have WAY to many pictures of our overnight camping trip to Hazlet State Park on Carlyle Lake.  So it has just gotten its own post. The boys and I went about a month ago and met Grandma and Grandpa at their camping trailer and had a lot of fun but this time we brought Daddy with us.  Yay! Even more fun! He had to go at the end of the night so he could be ready for work the next day but it was great to have him there for the afternoon and the evening.  Mom and Dad had a great spot right by the lake this time.

Shortly after we arrived (and let Grant finish his nap in the van) we got changed and headed to the beach for some fun.  Rex loves to get in the water, and dig in the sand for buried treasure, and get us to take him out to the deep end to "touch the boueys".....Grant on the other hand likes to sit on the blanket and lean over to the edge and poke in the sand with a shovel.  Making sure to not get water, or sand, or any other foreign particulate on him. sigh.   This time we did actually get him to walk along the waters edge bare foot once.  We'll make a beach lover out of you yet Grant....well maybe.
Rex's favorite thing to do is yell "COWABUNGA" and run into the water over and over.

Our tent at sunrise

Going into this trip I knew that I probably wouldn't get much sleep but I knew sometimes expriencing things is more important than how much sleep everyone gets.  (Sometimes. And hey thats why we only come for one night).  As expected the boys were both up really late, its just too fun to sleep in a camper i guess.  We were finally all asleep by about 10:30pm.  We all slept pretty good until Grant woke up at 4 a.m.  As soon as I heard him I hopped up and got his milk out of the fridge and hoped that he would go back to sleep.  Well....he didn't.  30 seconds later he had chugged his milk he was talking, talking, talking.  And when you are in a small space everyone can hear everything (amazingly Rex slept through it all, but I think he was the only one).  So after about 15 minutes Grant and I left and headed out to the tent.  We had kinda just set the tent up for fun for the boys to play in but it turned out to be really handy to have a place already set up where we could go.  He was very happy to play in it with the lantern on and I realized I was going to get to see the sun come up over the lake.  I had brought my Nikon just in case so I got it all set up and actually had a great time taking pics.

it took a while for the sun to come up over all the low lying clouds but once it did it was beautiful

Grandma got up and joined us

I love this profile I got by Grant just standing in front of the rising sun.
I took like 75 pictures of the sunrise.  I just had fun trying different settings, and angles and experiencing first hand the photgraphic "golden hour".  I wouldn't want to be up that early every day but it was actually a fun experience. (and yes I did take a nap later that day).  The boys, grandma, and I played around the campsite all morning and then headed home.
