September 2017

(ok so this next bit technically happened on Aug 31st but I feel I would be remiss if it didn't get chronicled somewhere.)

So most of you who know us and know Grant, know Grant has a beloved stuffed animal Battie.  Well Battie has been having a lot of Birthdays all summer long.  But Grant kept talking about one particular one coming up so much and talking about presents and a party that I just decided to go with it.  We're kinda hard up for Birthdays this time of year and who doesn't want to throw a party for a stuffed Bat?!

Grant used his own allowance money to "fly in" Batties Brother from "the amazon" (ie-Amazon.com) [he is technically a mexican free tail bat].  He arrived several days early and had to be hidden away in the guest room in the basement until the big day.  There was lots of whispering when Battie was around for several days so we didn't blow the surprise.

We went to the Art fair and Grant really wanted a picture of the eclipse to remember it by.  I figured that was a momentous enough event to spend a little cash on so we got the picture.  then Grant turned around and wrapped it up and gave it to Battie as a birthday present. (so I kinda got out smarted by a kindergartner I guess).  Battie does love it and it's hanging in his cave.

We also enjoyed cupcakes.  Rex and Ezra made Battie Birthday cards, then the boys had a boy/ all stuffed animal dance party.  If you ever get invited to a Bat Birthday party you should totally go, they are a lot of fun!

Labor day Weekend Happenings:

The boys were off for 4 whole days over Labor day and Will was off for 3 of them too!  We had some fun tent camping in the backyard.  Neither Will or I thought the boys would actually last the night.  But both of them fell right to sleep and slept all night (well until the sun came up anyway.)  Will spent the 1st night with them in the tent.  (partly because 3 people is about all it sleeps comfortably, and partly because I had a big 12 mile training run to get up for and wanted a good nights sleep.)  The boys begged to do it a 2nd night so I slept out with them that night.  I hadn't slept out in a sleeping bag on the hard ground in many years....it was not a great nights sleep.

Fairview had it's annual Wing Fest over the weekend too.  Rex and Grant both really like wings so we thought it would be fun to take them this year.  Will got some VIP tickets that really hooked us up.  The boys loved the wings, Grant even says he is planning to enter the wing eating contest next year.

Rex took on the rock climbing wall and made it all the way to the top!!!

The tent incident:
So on the 2nd night of  camping Will was working overtime at the mall so it was just me and the boys getting all ready to go out to the tent to sleep for the night.  We got our jammies on and all took an arm full of stuff out there, I let the boys in with the flashlight then headed back in the house to get some popcorn to eat for our Uno game before bed.  I saw some dishes I still needed to load in the dishwasher so started working on that too while I was in the house.  I heard some hollering from outside from the boys but just figured they were arguing about this or that.  When I did finally make it out to the tent they were both huddled together in very back corner of the tent holding each other and crying, yelling "there is a wasp in the tent!!"  It was right at the entrance so they were "trapped" in the tent.  I quickly found the wasp who was meekly (he had seen better days) crawling on the ground caught him in a bowl and got him outside.  They were both all worked up and had to tell me all about what had happened.  Grant just couldn't shake it though He was DONE with camping.  Unfortunately though Will wasn't home so I could just let him go inside alone.  I kept reassuring him that there were no more wasps in the tent.  Finally it was time to go to bed and I told Grant I was gonna say a special prayer for him.  I prayed kinda that we could enjoy our night being out in God's creation, and for Grant to feel safe.  When I got done Grant said "that was pretty good but I got a better one".  He folded his little hands bowed his head the most sincere I have ever seen him do and said "Dear God, please kill all the bad bugs in the world, and destroy their homes and lives, Amen."

I didn't realize I need to explain how to use "footrests".....

I made this my computer wallpaper for the month.  The pumpkins are all orange now and are proudly displayed at the front door.

I finally got my Green room.  I painted about half of it one day, then Will worked on the other half the next.  We really like it.

I became a Mom of 4 boys for 3 days this month!  Our good friends went on retreat to learn about fundraising for their upcoming missions trip and we watched their 2 little guys Roman (5 and in Kindergarten with Grant) and Soloman (aka-Solly monster) who just turned 3.  It was a busy, loud, house but they all had lots of fun and aside from one incident involving Solly, the T-Rex and several Star Wars Lego sets that are now no more we got along great!

Solly LOVED the knex big ball factory

NEWS FLASH:  This just in Rex lost a tooth!  Rex has been patiently awaiting this day for a long, long time.  It got quite loose and with his blessing I gave it 2 tugs and out it came!  The tooth fairy was even able to find her way to our house!  Her 1st of many visits to come.  (and as a side bonus Rex has stopped sucking his thumb!  I made a deal with him (over a year ago, who knew it would take so long!!) that he had to stop when he lost his 1st tooth.  And he has.  I haven't even had to bug him he just did it!)

This is to document that Will ate the ah-hem "Cheeseburger Omelet" at Ihop and lived to tell about it.

My little baby is all grown up!

Grant's class had a apple picking field trip.  (grant is on the bottom row3rd-ish from the right).  It was a fun (hot) day.

Weekend Getaway!
Will and I were able to get away for a fun quick trip to KC to watch the Kansas City Sporting compete in the Open Cup Final.  They won, which was just icing on the cake to our fun.
We enjoyed a leisurly afternoon coffee, hot and cold at the official coffee of the KC Sporting, the Roasterie.

Jason was kind enough to let us crash in our living room.  Also to take us to new places to eat and site see.

A pic of the team with their Open Cup trophy.
THEY WON!!

We watched the game after we got back on tv....we were on TV were so famous!
(Will is the black blob, Jason is above him (the stripped blob) and I amd below Will the blob with a phone in front of my face).

The boys were honestly in School most of the time we were gone.  We dropped them off on Wed morning and then were back in time (barely) to pick them up Thursday after school.  When they weren't in school though they were having a good time with Grandma Cindy.  While we were gone Grant found a spider that had made a web that almost looked like it was floating in the middle of the yard.  Grandma Cindy and he had fun appreciating the amazingness of spiders and their webs.  Grandma made a diagram of the spider and the web for Grant.  Here is Grant comparing the diagram to the real thing.  (if you look real close there is a black dot in the middle of the pic...that's the spider in his web which was connected to the grass and then way up high on a tree branch above)

Gonna get this post finished up a little early this month to get ready for a busy beginning to October.  On October 1st I will run my 11th half marathon, then 3 days later we will heading out on our big road trip to Orlando to meet up with everyone else for our Catron-cation to Lego Land!!
