Wow I can't believe this is already my 5th review of exclusively Wildtree Meals! Life has been a little hectic at times this summer and all those Wildtree meals I made and froze up back in May have definitely been a sanity saver this summer. I feel like have hardly cooked. beside just assembling final ingredients and sides for our meals. I do supplement a few go to meals in between Wildtree Stuff like Tacos (with Wildtree seasoning), Spaghetti, and we gotta do pizza about once a week. I am starting to get a little low in the freezer, I think I'm down to the last 4 meals! Yikes! I need to go back through all my left over product and these reviews and re-make some of our favorites. I do these reviews to share my love for Wildtree but I also do it so I can go back and look up meals and what we thought of them. There are so many my brain cant keep track of them all!
Okay, Let's review what the Stars mean: I'm rating it on a 5 star rating system. 1-yuck never again. 2-OK for 1 meal but probably won't make again, 3-above average good eats, 4-delicious we all loved it and will definitely make again. And a 5 Star rating to ones that we just Loved and are new family favorites. Please leave a comment and let me know what sounded good.
LEMON ROSEMARY CHICKEN WITH SUNDRIED TOMATO ORZO:
4 Stars (From: Everyday Meals Workshop)
We all really enjoyed this one. I had never bought Ozro (which looks like rice but is actually a pasta) The boys kept saying they liked the chicken and rice (so I just let them think that was what it was.) It had fresh good flavors and was just perfect with a little mozarella cheese sprinkled on top. I also really enjoyed this as a left over for several days worth of lunches.
SOUTHWESTERN CHICKEN BURGERS:
3 Stars (Everyday Meals Workshop)
(sorry this is not a great picture of this meal)I think Will likes the Chicken and Turkey Burgers better than I do. He really enjoys them and I just kind of tolerate them. We ate these as suggested with mayo, white cheese, and avacodo on top). They were a twist on your normal burgers and fun to try but I think I'll just stick with by good ole Beef patties.
SAVORY GRILLED TILAPIA:
3 Stars (Get Your Grill On Workshop)
These were a little tricky to grill for 2 reason. 1-I was grilling them and I don't really know what I'm doing. 2-they are so flaky and then they ended up in about 15 pieces of fish rather than filets. Anyway all assembled with rice, fish and the suggested cucumber, tomato, feta salsa they looked pretty impressive on the plate, if I do say so myself. All together the ingredients worked pretty well, individually I don't know if I would have liked any of them but it made for a good meal and got me out of my beef/chicken rut. We only grilled half of them so we will be eating these again in the future.
ITALIAN FLANK STEAK:
4 Stars (Healthy Comfort Foods Workshop)
Will and I grilled these up one night when we found ourselves at home without children. The Steak topped with the Grilled peppers and onions was DEE-licious! The Flank steak was really tender and juicy. I would rank this one with 5 stars if Flank Steak wasn't so darn expensive! Definitely a treat we will do again sometime though.
SAGE CITRUS DRY RUBBED PORK CHOPS:
5 Stars
This one isn't actually from any workshop it is a recipe on the back of the bottle of Sage Citrus Dry Rub, one of the new spring products this year. I just bought some fresh pork chops at Aldi,, added a little dry run and cooked these up on the stove. They were very good. All 4 of us liked them, the only problem was we had no left overs! Next time I will double it!
CHEDDAR AND GARLIC TURKEY BURGERS:
3.5 Stars (Get Your Grill On)
I used a 50/50 Turkey Beef mixture to make these, rather than all turkey. We had these at lunch one day when we were all home (hense the fruit and Doritos). They were probably one of my more favorite Turkey (or chicken) burgers I have tried from Wildtree, but as I've said overall I just prefer beef. I actually might try these again just as a beef patty. If its served in a burger form the boys will pretty much always eat it so that a definite plus.
HICKORY GRILLED RODEO CHICKEN W/ WILDTREE MACARONI
5 Stars (Get Your Grill On Workshop)
Can I just say I love the Hickory Grapeseed Oil from Wildtree. Anything marinated in it is YUMMY! The Wildtree Macaroni has become a fairly regular side around here too. At first it was just ok but I tweaked it a bit by adding more cheese flavoring and salt and its really good now! Yum my mouth is watering I wish we were having this for again for dinner tonight.
HERB GRILLED SHRIMP SKEWERS W/ ANGEL HAIR PASTA:
4 Stars (Get Your Grill On Workshop)
We are still kinda new to the whole cooking shrimp at home thing, and I think this was the first time we've had Shrimp on the Barbie (sorry I couldn't resist). Will Did a great job with them and they were very yummy. The pasta was mixed with some European Dipping Oil and Herb Grilling Marinade and a little fresh Lemon juice. I really liked it as a new way to make pasta other than with marinara sauce. We all really enjoyed this meal. Rex ate a lot of shrimp! Will is not the biggest shrimp fan but admitted this wasn't bad. Next time I might do a surf and turf version with some chicken and some shrimp all marinated the same way.
ASIAN GINGER BEEF TIPS WITH SPICY SLAW:
3.5 Stars (Get Your Grill On Workshop)
These consisted of beef, mushrooms and onions I skewered and Will Grilled. Then I made the spicy slaw, with mayo, sriracha hot sauce, red pepper flakes and Wildtree's Asian Ginger Plum Dressing. I obviously knew the boys were not going to care for the slaw but they didn't really care to much for the beef tips either. ("too chewie"). The Slaw did have a good zip to it but wasn't too spicy for me (I did go a little light on the red pepper flakes). I really enjoyed the bites with a piece of beef, mushroom, and slaw all together. It was like a party in my mouth.
CROCK POT SHREDDED BEEF BURRITOS:
4 Stars (Everyday Meals Workshop)
First of all this is not really how they are supposed to look. I did actually make these as a burritos, wrapped up, covered it green sauce and cheese and baked in the oven.(but I forgot to take a picture of them) They are very good like that and to my surprise the boys actually ate them really well too. But it made a lot and I had extra filling so we just kinda assembled them as a soft taco for leftovers and heated them up fresh when we wanted them. These were a little bit of a time intensive meal I thought. First you had to cook it for 8 hours in a crockpot, then shred the roast (which took me a while because it was a little bit tuff), then you had to assemble burritos 8 burritos into a pan and then bake them for another 20 mins. Like I said good, but not your typical quick easy Wildtree meal.
HERB GRILLED CHICKEN and FIRE ROASTED VEGGIES:
3 Stars (Get Your Grill On Workshop)
So pretty much anything I have had with the Herb Grilling Marinade has been Amazing. The chicken was juicy and flavorful. The veggies on the other hand were crunchy and kinda gross. I'm not sure if we didn't cook them right, they sat in the fridge to long thawed before we cooked them or what but they were not good. I really wanted to be a big girl and eat zucchini and squash for dinner but I resorted to taking few bits and hiding in my napkin. So in review, Chicken: YES, Veggies: NO
LASAGNA SKILLET MEAL
3.5 Stars
This is one of Wildtree's skillet meals, that take 30 mins or less to make. I have used this Lasagna skillet seasoning packet several times in other recipes like crockpot lasagna, and lasagna soup but I had never actually made the skillet meal. It was easy to whip up as advertised, but this was probably my least favorite way we've had the lasagna seasoning. It was decent but we agreed it tasted sort of like a hamburger helper meal, easy but just ok. Considering how much I have enjoyed some of the other ways to use this product I think I will stick to the crockpot or soup recipes next time.
ADOBO GRILLED CHICKEN:
3 Stars (Healthy Comfort Foods)
(sorry this picture is totally lame and then I forgot to get one at meal time) Compared to some of the other grilled chicken recipes we've had from Wildtree this one was just ok. It was a little bland, not a lot of flavor. I think we ate this with Caesar Salad and Potato smashers and had a decent meal, but nothing special. If I made this again I would try using more seasoning and salt and see if that made a difference or not.
